THE WALKS
There are so many to do that its hard to list them all. There are 10 walks listed in Perisher and Charlottes, and 6 walks around Thredbo in page 3 of the Free Kosciuszko National Park Guide Summer 2009-10 at
http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/parks/08448.pdf
Firstly there are 3 SLOPES SPECIAL WALKS accompanied by Dave Woods of NPWS. These walks are free of charge and for those who know Dave, will be terrific. These walks with Dave Woods are
Friday 2nd – Waterfall Track, Sunday 4th Porcupine Track, Monday 5th – Blue Lake Walk. I
Dave will take the bookings directly as attached. Book early or be disappointed. Refer to the attached flyer.
Then there are the NPWS guided walks which have been set out in attachment. BTPW Easter Discovery 09-10 . Each walk has a ranger in attendance and there are small fees for their guidance. They know the country in detail and at least one guided walk each will make the country come alive for you. Don’t underestimate the Sawpit exhibits for the children of all ages 5-50. These must be booked as listed in the attachment
Do it yourself walks
There are 10 walks listed in Perisher Charlottes, and 6 walks around Thredbo. Details are listed in the NPWS web site at http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/resources/parks/08448.pdf
The walks are : Sawpit track 2,6km round ; Palialbo Track 11.2 km round; Waterfall Track 6km round; Rennix Walk 13km; Rainbow Lake walk 3km; Porcupine Track 5km round ; Perisher Blue Cow 4km one way; Snowgums board walk 500m at Charlottes; Main range Track ; Summit Walk
Illawong 1 hour each way is a special relatively easy do it yourself Start off down the hill from the Village heading south across Farm Creek. There is a flying fox here that is used in high water levels which would be unusual at Easter. So you rock hop over the creek. Don’t try the flying fox. Then up the hill and along to the Illawong Bridge and the Illawong Lodge.
MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO:
After going this far for a summer expedition, it is a natural to go to the top of Australia. From the Thredbo Chair Top to the summit is 6,5Km one way, and from Charlotte pass it is 9Km one-way. Parking is very restricted at Charlottes pass, so pick your day. Not Easter Sunday!! For the keen the trip to organize is match cars up, half to Thredbo and walk back to Charlotte via the summit and vice versa. Take two sets of keys to be certain!!! Plan all Summit trips with water and clothing. The highest toilet in Australia is available FREE,
The relic of Seamans hut is on the way 6km from Charlottes.
HOTELS: The Man Hotel in Central Perisher will be open from Noon to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Guthega Alpine Hotel will be open for Morning Tea, Lunch, Afternoons and Dinners. Suggest Book for the Dinners.6457-5383. Nick is the Owner/Manager
Charlotte Pass Chalet will be open for lunch 12-2 and the coffee and bar until 5pm. The triple chair lift ride will be running for $5 for a top of the range view. The Fun Run ends at Charlotte on Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday is the heaviest day of the year for traffic so if you are just planning a casual visit, maybe one of the other days would be better. Stillwell Lodge at Charlotte is open for lunch and dinner.
.
PAPERS AND MILK:
Available with coffees at Gingers in the Ski Tube Building.
FIRE BRIGADE: We are waiting for the Brigade shift change to organize it, but somehow we think we should have a demonstration of lots of water being pumped. Maybe 5.30Pm on the Saturday so we can see it from the Man. Will advise.
