We discovered a few problems this past week - I will try to remember them all so the same doesn't happen to you.
We booked a 6 year old into Adventure Kids program - we received an email to collect ticket from SnowSports School. When we arrived there on Sunday afternoon to collect ticket they informed us that there was obviously a communcation problem between us and the person with whom we made the booking because the ticket wasn't there (despite the fact that the email stated where to collect the ticket) Turns out we were supposed to go to the 3-4 year old Discovery Kids room - which is a long way from the Adventure Kids room . Of course they were there! We then noticed when the ticket was handed to us that it was for 5.5 days - too late I cried - we were not made aware of this. They offered to tack a half day on at the end - which didn't happen incidentally but I'll tell you more about that later... So we finally had located this ticket and we then went to the hire shop.
We hired skis, boots and helmet. They tried to charge us for the helmet - I pointed out that they are free if the kid is pre booked in any all day kids program - "where did you see that" they asked "was it on the web site - well I guess we will have to give it to you but that is a mistake" I suggested that perhaps as it was on the web site and maybe the hire shop had it wrong. As it turns out not only is it on the web site in a number of different places, it is also mentioned in the printed Mountain Guide 2010 brochure. I guess it was the hire shop that made the mistake after all.
I'm really warming up now...
So Wednesday was a rest day for the adults and snowy so they head down to watch the kid in his class. They stand there for 45 minutes while the instructor takes her students down a short run - the smaller magic carpet. Only 5 students in the class BTW. So it is now our kid's turn - it had taken 45 mins to get 4 kids down this short run - and guess what - they go in for a drink. Well the mother was fuming so she let them have it. As it turns out the promised half day extra couldn't be done either so as a pacifier they gave our kid a one hour private lesson at the end of class on Wednesday. Of course it turned out to be 45 mins because it took the instructor 15 mins to get rid of the rest of the class.
Was there anything positive to come from this? Well - the kid had a good time! I need to go and have a rest now and see if I can get my blood pressure lower BUT watch this space.....
Iggy from Hans Over Snow will charge you $6 to take you and your skis/board (no groceries or booze) to the lodge between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. After a hard day skiiing this is money well spent. And if you are really lazy you can be collected between 7:00am and 9:00am in the morning and taken to the slopes. That would be good if you were worried about wearing yourself out before you start skiing!!! (Or if you have little skiers).
In a nutshell buy the Persher card for $48 and you can purchase a Fri to Sun day ticket $88 for adults. Mon to Thurs $84 for adults. ONE opportunity to buy a day pass for a friend $88 - this bit needs some clarification. Discounted Skitube travel - same day return when you buy a mountain pass. No advatage here as we stay fro a week and rarely ski on the first day! I guess the easiest thing to do is ask - you never know what you might get! You can get cheaper group lessons. If you normally buy a consecutive day pass the you will need to do the sums.
You can buy your Persher card online at www.perisher.com.au but you still need to collect it as though you were buying it on the spot - no advantage in buying it online then is there.
IMPORTANT - when you use your Perisher card to buy tickets you still need photo ID - they ask for a drivers license then they get a credit card for payment AND you need two id's when you buy a card - one must be photo. AND the back of the card has a signature panel - give me a break! If you don't drive you can't get a perisher card I guess!
(BTW I write my mobile # in the sig panel too in case I lose my card!)
